Williams Route 66 Marathon
Unveils 2016 3-D Race Medals

The Williams Route 66 Marathon, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma, has unveiled its 2016 finisher’s medal - and it’s unlike any ever seen before. In keeping with the race’s tradition of crafting unique and sizeable medals each year, the Williams Route 66 Marathon is proud to announce this year’s standalone, three-dimensional “Torch-bearing Goddess” medal.

The ample medal features a three-dimensional torch-bearing goddess that is ringed by inlaid color metal that proudly proclaims you are a finisher of the Williams Route 66 Marathon. For those who want an alternative way to show off their hard-earned prize, the medal also features a circular base that allows it to be displayed like a trophy, in addition to the ribbon that lets it hang around a racer’s neck after crossing the finish line. The goddess herself features detailed contours and pinstriping along the three-dimensional wings and body, reminiscent of the classic Route 66-era cars that still inspire the race’s theme today. The color of the metal ring varies depending on whether the participant is a marathon finisher, first-time marathon finisher, member of the Marathon Maniacs, member of the 50 States Marathon Club, half marathon finisher member of the Half Fanatics, relay finisher, 5k finisher or fun run finisher. The color of the ribbons will also reflect club membership.

“We have worked for months perfecting a piece that will stand out from our previous races, yet still embody the classic Route 66 style we are known for,” Williams Route 66 Marathon Director Kim Hann said. “It’s important to us to celebrate racers who have worked hard training. Our 3-D goddess medal is something participants will be proud to take home and show off.”

This is the 11th year for the Williams Route 66 Marathon. In 2015, nearly 17,000 people participated in the sold out races, which include a marathon, half marathon, relay, 5K, fun run, and mascot dash. This year, the race is expected to sell out again.

“Tulsa is a great race town,” Hann said. “Runners get to see many amazing things our city has to offer along the course including the ultra-marathon detour through the Center of the Universe!”
