Williams Route 66 Marathon To Match Runner Donations
with Charity Program

July 8, 2014

TULSA, OK -- Participants in the 2014 Williams Route 66 Marathon will have the opportunity to raise funds for their choice of five charities: Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Folds of Honor Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Oklahoma Chapter, Tulsa Area United Way and Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The Williams Route 66 Marathon will match up to $25,000 for the charity program.

“Runners are generous and community minded by nature,” Williams Route 66 Marathon Executive Director Chris Lieberman said. “Giving a choice of charities allows participants to allocate their giving to a cause that speaks to them.”

Participants are challenged to raise any amount they can. If they meet the minimum value for the event they register in, their registration fee will be free. 5K participants are required to raise $100, half-marathon participants are required to raise $250, marathon participants are required to raise $500, and marathon relay teams are required to raise $1,000. In the event that a race sells out, the charity program will be the only way for participants to register.

“The marathon and half-marathon have sold out the last two years,” Lieberman said. “We expect the same to happen this year so the charity program is a great way to help the community and assure your spot at the starting line.”
