Zero K Run to Raise Funds for City Care
without Breaking a Sweat

It’s only $25 to register at zerokokc.com

There is still time for non-runners and couch potatoes across the metro to register for City Care’s first-ever Zero K Run event set for 4-8 p.m. Sept. 27 at Crystal Lake, one of Oklahoma City’s best kept secrets at I-40 and MacArthur. Registration is open at www.zerokokc.com.

“If you’re ready to donate to a fun event that raises money for an organization that helps so many in need, but you’re not eager to run, this is the event for you!” said Pattye Moore, City Care board member and event organizer. “We want you to sign up, show up, sit down and party. It’s all of the fun with none of the run.”

The new annual event will include an optional 5K Trail Run around Crystal Lake and will offer a festival-like setting with food trucks, a beer garden, live music and a free kids zone. Registration is $25 and participants must register to attend. Those who register online by Sept. 19 will receive a T-shirt and a finisher’s medal. Participants can also register at the gate the day of the event. A free Kids Zone will be available for children 12 and under.

Each participant can register individually or coordinate teams. The individual or team captain raising the most money through race sponsorships will take home the grand prize, a name-brand recliner courtesy of Mathis Brothers Furniture. Participants can also compete for best costume, most creative team name and other door prizes.

“The Zero K offers an evening of great outdoor entertainment and gives us a chance to showcase Crystal Lake, a 60-acre recreational lake which is managed by City Care,” Moore said. “It’s been called the ‘crown jewel’ of MAPS 3, connecting the trails from Lake Overholser to the Oklahoma River.”

In addition to enjoying the lake atmosphere, participants can satisfy their post-race appetite with a wide array of food truck fare include Big Truck Tacos, Pops, Green & Grilled, Kai Teki Ramen, Super Juice and Epic Pops.  The beer garden will offer brews from Coop Ale, Black Mesa Brewing and Bell Isle Brewery.

Entertainment will be provided by Oklahoma City’s own Emmy-nominated rapper Jabee along with local bands The Wurly Birds and Feathered Rabbit. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome, but coolers, outside food and drink are not allowed.

Event sponsors include FOX 25, 98.9 KYIS, OPUBCO, St. Anthony Hospital, Waste Connections, WW Steel, Terrell’s Roofing, S & S Promotions, Frates Insurance, Principal Technologies, Ralph Mason Enterprises, Gaylord Family Foundation, Inasmuch Foundation, Margaret Annis Boys Trust, Petra Industries, Arvest Bank, Red Coyote, Nodus Graphics, Lifeshare Oklahoma, Anschutz Foundation and Bank7.
